Kuala LumpurPrime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi presented eight awards at the Prime Minister's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards on Wednesday 14th November 2007. He urged companies to step up their CSR efforts by employing the handicapped.

Biotech on track to hit target Print E-mail

Malaysian Biotechnology Corp Sdn Bhd (Biotech Corp) says the National Biotechnology Plan (NBP) for capacity building is on track although work still needs to be done in providing a climate conducive to investment as well as developing human capital.

Chief executive officer Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood said Biotech Corp had been focusing on how to improve the investment climate so foreign investors could work and benefit in the local environment. “As with any emerging industry, we've to scale up in terms of the developmental work,” he said.

Bank targets 160 panel cooperatives next year Print E-mail

Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd aims to increase the number of cooperatives on its panel to 160 next year from 40 now, says managing director Datuk Kamaruzaman Che Mat. He said the aim was to help it achieve its target of channelling out RM36mil in micro-credit financing to entreprenuers next year.

Malaysian Securities Commission shows regulatory teeth Print E-mail

The Malaysian Securities Commission has shown the effectiveness of its regulatory process by requiring the restatement of accounts by Talam Corporation Berhad for failure to comply with Regulation 4 of the Securities Industry (Compliance with Approved Accounting Standards) Regulation 1999 (Regulations).

In a related move Bursa Malaysia announced that it would defer the scheduled suspension of the company pending the outcome of its appeal to the SC against the rejection of its proposed regularisation plans.
