Qatar: Anti-Corruption Priority with the UN Compact Print E-mail

The UN Global Compact expressed broad business support for the setting up of an effective monitoring mechanism for the United Nations Convention against Corruption. At the Convention’s Conference of State Parties in Doha, Qatar, Head of Anti-Corruption Initiatives in the Global Compact Office, Olajobi Makinwa, emphasised the importance of the Global Compact as a voluntary framework for addressing Anti-Corruption in both the private and public sectors.

UN Commends UAE Firms For Philanthropy Print E-mail

The United Nations (UN) has commended UAE businesses for going the extra mile in funding aid efforts. UN’s Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has stated that there has been a burst of corporate philanthropy in the Middle East, citing first-time offerings of USD150,000 from the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, or Taqa, and USD100,000 from HSBC Middle East.

One of Middle East's media organisations, Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI), launched its own Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) department recently. The department began its duties by visiting a children’s ward for cancer, kidney failure, and surgical cases at Dubai Hospital.

Dubai Customs Cater to Special Needs Print E-mail

Dubai Customs has embarked on its corporate social responsibility programme by publishing the Client Service Charter in Braille and conducting sign language courses for employees. Director of Client Management Department at Dubai Customs, Mr. Mohammed Faraj, was reported to have said that the two initiatives are in line with Dubai Customs' CSR and its ongoing concern for all society members.

Qatar Airways' bid to reduce aviation emissions Print E-mail

Qatar Airways is the first and only Middle East carrier to join the Aviation Global Deal (AGD) Group, a body aimed at developing a global policy for tackling aviation emissions. The Doha-based airline joins international carriers, UK-based airports operator BAA and international non-government organisation the Climate Group to build the policy and create more awareness of the issue.
