Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production recently launched its first long-term CSR project, called the Chevron Human-Energy School Network. The initiatives aims to encourage students develop their schools in an environmentally responsible manner, thereby boosting their awareness of environmental issues. Inspired by the success of its 2004 project, "Participatory Waste Management with 12 Allied Schools" scheme, Chevron will run the new Human-Energy School Network from 2009 to 2011, and targets to develop 84 schools in Thailand.
Chevron Thailand's President, Tara Tiradnakorn, was reported to have said, "The tougher the economy we face, the more CSR budget we'll spend to help society. This project's budget in the first year is set to Bt10 million and expected to increase in the coming years,"
Apart from this project, Chevron is working with Chulalongkorn University to develop a master's-degree programme in petroleum geology. The company will provide financial support of US$10 million (Bt355 million) over the next five years. Tiradnakorn was quoted as saying that the university project would help relieve a shortage of human resources in this specific field and serve expected higher demand. The programme will commence in August, and enrolment of 10-20 students is targeted.
