Saturday, 14 November 2009
A conference on corporate social responsibility (CSR), jointly hosted by UN Global Compact Networks in China, South Korea and Japan, is hosted in Seoul. The conference is the first of its kind in the country, and is supported by the UN Global Compact Headquarters, according to the UN Global Compact Korea Network.

In a press release, South Korea's local network stated, "The first roundtable conference will highlight our attempt to advance the United Nation Global Compact and CSR in the Northeast Asia region as well as to strengthen the collaboration among China, Japan and Korea."

The conference aims at raising awareness of CSR and the UN Global Compact and also increase understanding of the role of the private sector in global economic and social development, it added.

UN Global Compact Headquarters' Chief Director, Georg Kell, is said to be present at the event, together with 40 other delegates from China and Japan, as well as more than 200 business executives, CSR specialists, government officials and civil society leaders from the three countries.

Board members of the three Networks - South Korea's SK Telecom CEO, Chey Tae Won, Toshio Arima, president of Global Compact Japan Network, and Chen Ying, president of Global Compact China Network, will lead the floor of the conference.

Founded in 2002 by the United Nations Headquarters, UN Global Compact is regarded as the largest corporate citizenship and sustainability initiative in the world, providing a new means of promoting principles in the areas of human rights, labour standard, environment and anti-corruption.
