Chemical Company of Malaysia Berhad (CCM), a listed company on the main board of Bursa Malaysia, is committed to to promoting reading, especially among rural school children. In keeping to this, the company has donated RM30,000 worth of referral books on science, technology and health to ten rural primary schools in Perak. The programme began in 2006, with 24,000 students from 37 rural schools in Perak having benefitted from CCM's contribution since. The company has provided 2,000 books, worth more than RM110,000.CCM' managing director, Datuk Dr Mohd Hashim Tajudin, was reported to have said it was vital for children to enjoy reading, as it had many advantages that would help their intellectual growth. CCM, through its foundation, also contributes to other educational projects by way of scholarships to local university students, as well as to children of smallholders through the Golden Growers Club. |
