Eco Rangers hits first anniversary Print E-mail
Friday, 31 July 2009
Toyota Eco Rangers, UMW Toyota Motor's tree-planting programme, celebrated its first anniversary recently. The event was marked by an awards ceremony to participating schools for their environmental efforts. Twenty-two participating schools received the Green Merit award for their efforts in the programme.

UWM Toyota Motor executive director Aminar Rashid Salleh was reported to have said, “We have established the Toyota Eco Rangers programme, a sustainable tree planting programme that aims to inculcate a sense of responsibility to the environment.”

The three schools that displayed the greatest improvements were SMK Setapak Indah, SMK Putrajaya and SMK (P) Sri Aman.

Education Ministry deputy director-general, Datuk Noor Rezan Bapoo Hashim, was reported to have said, “The programme provides an experiential learning platform for the participants and promotes a holistic education.”

The programme is a collaboration between UMW Toyota, Yayasan Anak Warisan Alam (Yawa) and the Education Ministry, and is part of Toyota’s corporate social responsibility efforts and an extension of Toyota Eco Youth.

The programme was launched on June 9 2008 with an Eco Camp. The programme spans three years and currently has 755 trees planted and nurseries established in the schools.
