Malaysian companies have been called to set up daycare centres for their employees as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR). Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister, Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob, was reported to have said that these facilities at the workplace would go a long way towards helping working parents.
He was quoted as saying, "Why not companies adopt the responsibility of establishing daycare
centres in the workplace because both the companies and employees can
benefit from it,"
The minister was reported to have made the suggestion after officiating the signing of a memorandum of
understanding between the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and
the Companies Commission of Malaysia, together with the launch of the
Best Business Practice Circular 1 of 2010 in the nation's capital, Kuala Lumpur.
He also said the government would provide tax incentives to companies seeking to establish daycare centres at the workplace.
