More than 200,000 smallholders and farmers received assistance from Agromate Holdings Sdn Bhd, one of Malaysia's largest fertiliser companies. Under one of Agromate's corporate social responsibility initiatives, Agromate’s specialists have conducted seminars, provided consultation and visited farms to educate farmers on how to improve their crop yields and enhance their income.
Agromate's marketing director, Wong Beng Fuat, was reported to have said the company also provides on-site consultation to all farmers and smallholders of oil palm plantations so that good agricultural economics and practices are promoted. The company also has conducted visits to farms and oil palm plantations on a regular basis since 1980 to advise and educate farmers about better techniques in farming.
According to Wong, one of challenges faced by smallholders and farmers are is the high cost of fertiliser. Agromate has taken an active measure by helping smallholders and farmers source for a fertiliser that will help improve crop yield at a lower price. Wong was reported to have said that this move is to support the government’s call to ensure that local farmers obtain fertilisers at a reasonable price.
