The National Green Technology Policy is expected to be launched on 24 July 2009.The policy is set to promote low carbon technology and ensure sustainable development, while conserving the natural environment and resources. According to reports, the policy will include setting up a legislative and regulatory framework that will support development of green technologies, as well as promote a culture of resource use optimisation.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, is expected to launch the National Green Technology Policy at the Malaysia Energy Centre in Bandar Baru Bangi.

The policy will help create opportunities for new green businesses, including the manufacturing of "green products". According to the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry's website, one of the strategies planned is the creation of a Green Technology Fund, which would operate under the concept of "polluter pays".

News reports suggest that a National Green Technology Advisory Council may also be set up to monitor progress and implementation of green technology.
