Nigerian Eagle Airlines is set to introduce special onboard envelope, on flights across its route network, to raise funds to support the ongoing humanitarian and rescue activities in Haiti. The airline was reported to have said that this was part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) to help curtail the devastating effect of the earthquake. The airline's chief executive officer, Dapo Olumide, said the company is deeply concerned about the scale of disaster left in the aftermath of the earthquake, pledging the airlines commitment towards raising funds to make a difference in the support of ongoing humanitarian activities. Meanwhile, Nigeria's Lagos State government has launched an appeal to raise some USD1 mill in aid of Haiti's earthquake victims, according to China's Xinhua news agency. Lagos state commissioner for information and strategy, Opeyemi Bamidele, was reported to have said the fund will be lodged at the Skye Bank Plc for subsequent transmission to the ongoing aid programmes in Haiti. Bamidele was reported to have said that council members have also made individual donations to the fund, while prominent public figures and corporate organizations are also encouraged to make donations. A major earthquake of magnitude-7, the strongest in about 200 years in Haiti, rocked the Caribbean island country recently, crushing thousands of buildings, including the presidential palace and the UN peacekeeping headquarters, and trapping people in the rubble of the capital city of Port-au-Prince.
