UN Global Compact Reports Available For Investors Print E-mail
Saturday, 19 September 2009
In a bid to facilitate investment consideration in matters relating to environmental, social and governance issues, contents of annual progress reports issued by United Nations Global Compact participants, known as Communications on Progress (COPs), are now available on the Bloomberg Professional® service.

The Bloomberg service offers a search function on the contents of the COPs, whose integrated data, news and analytic tools will enable Bloomberg users to research performance of publicly listed and private companies worldwide. COPs are also available on the UN Global Compact website. The UN Global Compact encourages the investment community and other stakeholders to use COPs as a tool for analyzing corporate performance.

Meanwhile, Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact, Georg Kell, addressed the Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst Conference in New York recently. He stated that his sincere hope is that "Private Equity and the United Nations have some important common objectives – objectives that relate to the creation of a more sustainable and stable global economy."

Kell added that an important development in this regard was when the Private Equity Council officially adopted a set of guidelines resulting from collaborative discussions with the UN-backed Principles for Responsible Investment – a network of some 550 institutional investors representing roughly USD18 trillion in assets.

In his address, Kell called on private investors to:

  • embrace the new-era of "Responsible Investment", sign the PRI, and actively incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making.
  • sign their portfolio companies to the Global Compact.
  • embrace more transparency.

in order to cement the convergence the goals and interests of the United Nations, and those of business and finance.
