AmBankGroup Launches the AmBank-MyKasih Community Programme with aCommitment of RM 1 Million

AmBankGroup launched the AmBank-MyKasih Community Programme nationwide in2009 in which a contribution of RM 1 million has been made for this programme.

AmBankGroup first teamed up with MyKasih Foundation in November 2009 inwhich they sponsored 100 lower-income families in Sentul, KualaLumpur. The success and efficiency of the MyKasih food-subsidyplatform have inspired AmBank Group to continue supporting MyKasihFoundation. Following this successful launch, the Group subsequentlylaunched the programme in Pulau Pinang, Kuching, Kota Bharu, SubangJaya and Kota Kinabalu respectively.

Thisproject gives AmBank Group the opportunity to participate in aninnovative social and community programme that will reach out to thehardcore poor. The recipients will be the main beneficiaries withoutany intermediaries.

Thisis a one year programme whereby each recipient will receive anallowance of RM80 per month to purchase essential food items.

Process:

  1. The NGOs will identify and select the needy families and details will be given to the MyKasih Foundation where the eligibility of the recipients will be assessed.

  2. The recipient will usually be the mother of the family whereby the allowance of RM80 a month will be deposited into the recipient’s MyKad.

  3. Recipients shop at participating/selected retailers for essential goods such as rice, bread and flour etc. and payment will be made via MyKad.

  4. During the one year programme, recipients will have the opportunity to receive basic entrepreneurial skills training and attend financial literacy classes.

TheAmBank-MyKasihCommunity Programme ensures all donations in the food aid programmereach the families. This is what makes this programme unique amongother welfare programmes.

Whenwe look at contributions to the underprivileged and the hardcorepoor, we are looking at ensuring that the contributions do reach theintended recipients and that they enjoy visible and tangiblebenefits. Thefunds will ultimately reach the family members directly not in cashbut in the form of the goods they purchase from selected retailers,”said YBhg Tan Sri Azman Hashim, Chairman, AmBank Group.

AmBankGroup continuously plays a CSR role for the community at large, irrespective of race, creed or religion in the form of cashcontribution to deserving charitable causes.  A project such asthis helps to meet our objective to play an effective corporate roleas a socially responsible corporate citizen. Thisprogramme is part of our CSR’s sustainability programme, which wehope, will assist the needy to learn how to manage their financialplanning and cope with difficult times,” he added.

TheAmBank-MyKasih Community Programme also manages a series of coursesdesigned to suit the needs of members of recipient families.Volunteers from donor’s organisation and NGOs help conduct basicfinancial literacy courses aimed at helping adult family members tomanage their finances as well as boosting their budgeting skills.
