Islamic Green Fund to be launched in Malaysia Print E-mail

Lake Garden's in Malaysia's CapitalAMANAHRAYA Investment Bank Ltd (AIB) and Asian Finance Bank Bhd (AFB) plan to launch a RM1 billion Islamic fund in 2008 that invests in environmentally friendly projects.

AIB and AFB have taken the initiative to design the fund in Malaysia and hope to attract investors from the Middle East, the US and Europe.

Flextronics Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd, a leading electronics manufacturing Services Company in Malaysia, has rented over 20 houses in Taman Mutiara, near its Shah Alam factory for its 400 female Indonesian workers under its CSR program.

This follows an earlier project by leading Malaysian car manufacturer UMW Holdings Berhad to donate 8-acres of UMW land in Serendah, valued at RM2.0 million, to ex-workers of the New Serendah Estate, through RV Global Sdn Bhd, which acts as a legal entity to represent them.

New on-line SRI resources site Responsible Investor reports that there are plenty of Asian companies with excellent corporate and social responsibility (CSR) and huge opportunities for good returns on responsible investment portfolios across the region.

In Malaysia SRI full-year returns to August 2007 were 29.0% on the OWW Responsibility SRI Index and peak returns were 44.5%. Compared to the 2.8% full-year returns on the UK FTSE4GOOD and 6.3% on the UK FTSE100 over the same period and you can see why Malaysia stocks offer such potential
